• Code works sometimes, not others. The membrane contacts under the keypad buttons are worn, or the radio receiver on the BFT board is drifting off frequency. On a Deimos with the 868 MHz receiver, this often shows up first during humid weather, because moisture gets into the membrane and changes the resistance. • Intercom buzzes but you can’t hear the visitor. The speaker cone in the call station is blown, or the audio transformer on the intercom module has failed. BFT intercom boards from the mid-2010s are known for this after 5 to 7 years of daily sun exposure on the west-facing post.
• All buttons on the keypad are dead, no backlight. This is usually a power issue on the keypad’s ribbon cable, or the keypad’s own fuse. BFT keypads draw a small constant current for the backlight; when the connection gets corroded, the whole pad goes dark.
